The Saudi British Society took its members on an exclusive tour of Christie’s latest exhibition, Ahmed Mater: Chronicles. This hour-long guided tour was a unique opportunity to see the work of internationally acclaimed contemporary Saudi artist Ahmed Mater, whose art offers insights into the rapidly changing social and cultural landscapes of the Arab world.
Ahmed Mater: Chronicles is an immersive mid-career retrospective that traces the evolution of Mater’s career, from his early days as a medical practitioner to his rise as a significant cultural voice in the Middle East. The exhibition showcased a wide array of mediums including painting, photography, sculpture, video, and installation, and highlighted the major milestones of Mater’s journey. Members were treated to a host of never-before-exhibited works, including early abstract paintings and new creations like the Magnetism Book, alongside projects such as Desert of Pharan.
