Travels with Maridadi by Bizzie Frost

The talk, Travels with Maridadi took place on Thursday 25 April in which former long-time resident in Saudi Arabia, Bizzie Frost, shared her remarkable adventures across the deserts and mountains of the Kingdom and its neighbours on a Harley Davidson.

Bizzie Frost, who comes from Kenya, spent 31 years in Jeddah with her husband, Richard – whom she calls Frosty – a long-serving Saudi Arabian Airlines 747 captain. Together they took a series of remarkable journeys around Saudi Arabia and the Middle East on their Harley-Davidson Road King they named Maridadi, a Swahili word meaning ‘beautiful’.

An accomplished journalist and photographer, Bizzie shared was kind enough to share a host of memories and photos of their journey together during the talk.

Bizzie has published her exploits in the highly regarded memoir, Travels with Maridadi. Robert Lacey gave the following summation of her book:

“Here’s the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia seen in a fresh and magical way – from the back of a Harley! A bright and sharp book like no other.Bizzie is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and her photos will take us around Saudi Arabia.”

Since her epic adventures, the number of Harley enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia has taken off. Established in 2004, the Riyadh Chapter of the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) is the largest in the MENA region with more than 2,000 members, including a fast-growing number of ‘Ladies of Harley’ (L.O.G.) members.

The talk was followed by a reception, with catering generously provided by fellow SBS Member Mr Riaz Khan.
