Talk by Dr Al Muhanna on Oil Leaders and their influence on Saudi and Global Oil Policy

On 24th February 2023, The Saudi British Society hosted a talk by Dr Al Muhanna, author of the recently published book Oil Leaders; An insider’s account of four decades of Saudi Arabia and OPEC’S Global Energy Policy.

Dr Al Muhanna was advisor to the Saudi minister of energy from 1989 to 2017. He currently works as an energy consultant and is vice chair for the Gulf States/Middle East at the World Energy Council.Whilst increasing diversification into petrochemicals, hydrogen and global investment and technology start-ups, Aramco remains the world’s largest crude oil producer and claims proven oil reserves of over 250 billion barrels.

Dr Al Muhanna provided a fascinating, highly topical and revelatory behind-the-scenes account of the industry and of decisions by top figures in the energy world over the past four decades.

Catering for the event was provided by Alia and Sara from Basima’s Kitchen. Guests included two noted Saudi silversmiths, Ayat Dhahi and Revan Abdul-Sabour, along with Jonny Stokes who is the Artist in Residence at the Bishopsland Educational Trust.
