Nejd Architecture: A Living Tradition by Mr John McAslan

Event Date: 02/06/2021

Welcome to the SBS virtual talk, via Zoom conducted on Wednesday 2nd June 2021 from 1730 to 1830 (5.30pm to 6.30pm) UK Time / 1930 to 2030 KSA Time.

Our distinguished Speaker for this exclusive talk was Mr John McAslan CBE on his subject, Nejd Architecture: A Living Tradition. John McAslan + Partners (JMP) is an award-winning international architectural practice headquartered in London. A particular mark of the practice is its work in relation to the conservation and adaptation of historic buildings, such as its celebrated transformation of King’s Cross Station in London.

John McAslan CBE gave the talk himself, illustrating the practice’s commitment to understanding local traditions and reflecting these in its portfolio of work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. Within this context, JMP has developed a particular interest in the enduring Saudi Nejd tradition of architecture, given its timelessness and response to craft, materiality, functionality and climate.
