Dr Samira Osailan is an Oral Surgeon from Guy’s Hospital, London. She is married and a mother of two children. She was born in AlMadina AlMunawarah, Saudi Arabia. She got her major degree in Dentistry (BDS) and her Master’s in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery form King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Then she worked as an Oral Surgeon (Specialist) at King Fahad Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She got her PhD from King’s College London Dental Institute, London University. Now she is doing her training at Guy’s Hospital for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. She is also pursuing her work as a Clinical Researcher.
Dr Osailan talked about her life in the UK and the hurdles she had to overcome when she first arrived. She described how she became integrated into the British society, while keeping her own Saudi cultural identity. She said “Living in a multicultural society is motivational to each culture”. Some keys to her successful integration were: learning the system, sticking to a personal budget, practicing religion without making a fuss and sharing celebrations – both Christian and Islamic – with others.
Dr Osailan has had a successful career with many achievements, including experience in clinical research, publications, and reviewing papers as an expert in her field. Her name was in “Who is Who in the World” 25th Edition 2008.
In conclusion Dr. Osailan said that there are many hard working, dedicated Saudi women but the outside world knows very little about them. Her last words were “I am Proud to be a Saudi Woman”.
