The Saudi British Society is proud to host a wide range of events, lectures and presentations, showcasing the rich cultural palettes of, and relationships between, the Middle East and the Western World. Delving into both macro and micro subjects, the Society’s lectures look at past, present and future, and offer unique insights into a fascinating region and a vitally important relationship.

The Presentation of the Rawabi Holding Awards took place at the Saudi-British Society’s Annual Dinner.

A three–conference was held from November 7th to 9th at the King Abdul Aziz Historical Center and the National Museum in Riyadh, to present recent discoveries and research in the field of Saudi archaeology.

The Society’s new Culture programme was launched with a presentation by the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts (PSTA) and the Turquoise Mountain Foundation on the expansion of traditional arts in Saudi Arabia. The subject under discussion was the Expansion of Arts in Saudi Arabia.
Sir James was Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1979 to 1984. An academic and brilliant Arabist, his warmth and wit and wisdom were treasured by his colleagues and his many, many friends in the UK and across the Arab world.

The British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Simon Collis, gave a talk to the Society, focusing on Saudi–British relations and recent developments in the Kingdom and the region.

The talk described how the postal service in Arabia developed from its beginnings in antiquity through the early years of Saudi rule in the 1930s. The talk was accompanied by a film.

The 2016 Ghazi Al Gosaibi Memorial Lecture entitled "A Saudi View of Events in the Middle East" was given by HRH Prince Turki al Faisal, Chairman of the Board of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies and Patron of the Saudi–British Society.

The Society’s annual Ghazi al Gosaibi Memorial Lecture was given by Dr. Mark Thompson and was entitled: Saudi Youth and Societal Transformation: Aspirations and Challenges.

In Pursuit of Stability was given by Sir Derek Plumbly, who drew on his experience as a diplomat and international official in the Middle East including nine years in Saudi Arabia, three of them as British ambassador, and three years as the UN Secretary General's Special Coordinator in Lebanon.
