The Saudi British Society is proud to host a wide range of events, lectures and presentations, showcasing the rich cultural palettes of, and relationships between, the Middle East and the Western World. Delving into both macro and micro subjects, the Society’s lectures look at past, present and future, and offer unique insights into a fascinating region and a vitally important relationship.

The Ghazi al Gosaibi Memorial Lecture: featuring a lecture by Dr. Eugene Rogan on The Arabian Peninsula in World War I.
The Society’s former Chairman, Sir Alan Munro, gave his views to the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs investigating the relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia.

After the Society’s Annual General Meeting, Aisa Martinez gave a talk entitled Dress in Saudi Arabia: the Art of Heritage collection and research project.

A talk by Professor Geoff Bailey entitled Out of Africa. The talk was followed by a drinks reception and was held at the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce.
The Rt Hon Lord Denman was born on the 7 July 1916 in Cumberland, England, and was Senior Advisor to the Merchant Bridge & Co. Ltd. until his death.

A talk by Sir Alan Munro about his recently published book of memoirs, Keep The Flag Flying, which covers his career in Saudi Arabia, including his experiences there during the First Gulf War, and across the Arab world.
The flag of Saudi Arabia was raised at the Olympic Village in London on 22nd July as athletes from the Kingdom prepare for the opening of the Summer Games on 27th July.

The Society’s Annual General Meeting was held at the Arab–British Chamber of Commerce. This was followed by a talk given by Eng. Nadia Bakhurji, Secretary–General of the Al–Waleed bin Talal Foundation and a distinguished woman architect.
Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has appointed Defence Minister Prince Salman as Crown Prince and heir apparent, after the death of HRH Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The death was announced on 16th June 2012 of Saudi Arabia's crown prince, 78-year-old Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, who served as the kingdom's interior minister for more than 35 years.
Sir John Jenkins KCMG LVO took up his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in June 2012.

A special evening for members of the Society was held at the British Museum's exhibition Hajj: Journey to the Heart of Islam. The event included a tour, followed by a reception in the Great Hall.
