The Saudi British Society is proud to host a wide range of events, lectures and presentations, showcasing the rich cultural palettes of, and relationships between, the Middle East and the Western World. Delving into both macro and micro subjects, the Society’s lectures look at past, present and future, and offer unique insights into a fascinating region and a vitally important relationship.

On the 22nd of February 2023, The Society will be proud to join in the worldwide celebrations for Saudi Arabia Founding Day.
Iradj Bagherzade, founder and chairman of educational publishing house and Bloomsbury imprint I B Tauris, has died aged 80. Bagherzade had been chairman for 35 years. He passed away on 8th January 2023.
The first leg of the Heart of Arabia Expedition has been completed, with the second leg due to begin from Al Turaif in Diriyah  on the 16th of January. Listen to the podcast here.
The Trustees and members of The Saudi British Society are deeply saddened at the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, the longest reigning monarch in British history.

On the occasion of Founding Day, the Chairman, Trustees and members of the Saudi British Society send greetings to citizens of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the occasion of Founding Day on Tuesday February 22.
It is with great sadness that The Saudi British Society acknowledges the sudden but peaceful passing of a dear friend and supporter, Roger Harrison, at his home on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Saturday 16th October 2021, at the age of 75 years.

The Saudi British Society announces with great sadness the death of SBS Honorary Member and former Trustee Muawiya Derhalli, who died peacefully at home on 29 January 2021, aged 93. Muawiya was a wonderfully loyal member of the SBS, coming to all meetings he could and applying his wit and wisdom to Society issues.
Sir James was Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1979 to 1984. An academic and brilliant Arabist, his warmth and wit and wisdom were treasured by his colleagues and his many, many friends in the UK and across the Arab world.
