WINNERS OF THE RAWABI HOLDING AWARDS 2018

The 2018 awards for making a significant contribution to Saudi-British relations were presented at the Annual Dinner on 24th January.

The winners were Dr Abdul Aziz al Sager and Dr Farhan Nizami CBE.

Dr Abdul Aziz al Sager,
chairman and founder director of the Gulf Research Centre and founder and co-organiser of the annual Gulf Research Meeting at Cambridge University, which for the past ten years has brought together academics, writers and researchers interested in the Gulf to exchange ideas and deepen understanding of developments there.
Dr Sager has written many influential papers and articles on Saudi Arabia and the Gulf. He has degrees from Kent and Lancaster Universities.

Dr Farhan Nizami CBE, Fellow of Magdalen College Oxford and Founder Director of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, a Recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. OCIS was established in 1985 to bring together scholars from the West and the Islamic world and increase mutual understanding. Dr Nizami has successfully guided the Centre ever since. It has enjoyed wide support, including from the late King Fahd. Thirty years of endeavour were crowned this year with the opening by the Prince of Wales, supported by the Centre's Chair of Trustees, Prince Turki al Faisal, of its beautiful building, an extraordinary blend of the traditions of the Oxford college and the medieval madrassa.
